Review of RevitaLash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner

Review of RevitaLash Advanced Eyelash ConditionerHaving always had long, luscious eye lashes in my youth, I wasn't happy when they stopped being quite so fulsome as I hit my forties.  What to do?  False eye lashes - non, merci, as to me, they seem to be really, well, false! The same goes for lash inserts.

I then discovered Revitalash and have not stopped fluttering my lashes ever since!

Revitalash Lash Conditioner ReviewRevitalash is a lash conditioner and for me it has given me fuller, longer, thicker lashes.  I can't show you a before shot, as I have now been using Revitalash for well over 3 years (before I started blogging), but I will show you what my eye lashes look like now.
The first shot is my natural lashes now with no mascara and the one beneath with a single layer of mascara.

How long until results show?

When I first started using Revitalash, I used it every night and I started to see a difference in my lash line after about 3 weeks. It took about 6 weeks to see the maximum result.

How to maintain results?

You do need to keep using the product to maintain the results, if you stop, your eyelashes will revert back to your natural result after about 4-6 weeks.  However, I now follow a maintenance programme, and use the conditioner 3-4 times a week (basically every other day, but I do sometimes forget!).

Application

The product comes in a tube with a thin brush, very similar to liquid eyeliner.  You apply a thin coat to the lash line.

Is it Expensive?

The upfront investment is expensive.  At time of writing, a 2ml tube costs about £65 or £85 for a 3.5ml tube.  You will find occasional promotions on this, but it is very, very important to purchase from an official retailer as (unfortunately) it is a product that is counterfeited and realistic fakes abound.  Not only are they not effective, you have no way of what ingredients have been used (which will not include the proprietary prostaglandin-like active ingredient in Rivitalash - see below) and you are apply this close to your eyes, so be safe!

In my experience, a tube is very long lasting, especially once you have moved onto the maintenance programme.  My last 3.5ml tube has lasted 13 months - this works out at £6.50 per month, and I am more than happy to pay that amount for the result I achieve.  The formulation includes ingredients to keep it sterile over prolonged use.

How does Revitalash work

Lash-enhancing serums first came into being after a side-effect was observed on glaucoma patients using medication for their condition - they started to see longer and fuller lashes. The first products developed contained the same active ingredient as the glaucoma eye drops, a form of prostaglandin.  These are believed to work by prolonging the growth cycle of eyelashes.  As the active ingredients in the first eye lash serums were based on a drug ingredient, they too were classified as a drug  and required a prescription.

The active element in Revitalash appears to be a proprietary prostaglandin-like ingredient called dechloro dihydroxy difluoro ethylcloprostenolamide.  The formulation also contains a number of botanical extracts and peptides.

In the UK, Revitalash is very careful to market itself as a cosmetic product, referring to its product as an eyelash conditioner and claiming an improvement in the "appearance" of fullness and thickness.  Without the magic word "appearance" it could be argued that it was making a medical claim, which would mean that the serum would need to be sold as a drug rather than a cosmetic product.

Side Effects and Contra-indications

It has been ophthalmically-tested.  There have been reports that it can cause skin irritation, and Revitalash advise to initially reduce use, and if irritation persists, to stop using altogether.  There are further incidents of side-effects reported against the original active ingredient when used in glaucoma eye drops including eyelid skin discolouration and darkening of light irises.

The manufacturer provides the following guidance on who should not use this formulation:
If you are pregnant or nursing, currently taking cancer chemotherapy, or under the age of 18. If you are being treated for any ocular disorder or have had previous eye surgery (including cataract implant surgery), use Revitalash® advanced under the supervision of your physician.
