Weekend News Digest - 10 May 2014

Last week we were smelling of roses, this week it's daisies, and is it the end of swirl, tap, buff?  Read on for this week's delectus of beauty news and launches....

No more Swirl, Buff, Tap - bareMinerals Are For ‘U’-Turning
A (in)famous British Prime Minister once said “U-turn if you want to. The lady's not for turning.”  However, such intransience does not appear to afflict Leslie Blodgett, Creator of bareMinerals, who this week unveiled its first-ever fluid foundation.  Despite admitting to being a long-time detractor of liquid foundations, Leslie has apparently seen the light (not so much, I suspect, on the road to Damascus, more likely on the plane back from the HQ of new owner, Shiseido).  She now recognises “that liquid foundation remains a preferred format for most women”.  After 83 rounds of product formulation, fast forward to bareSkin™ Pure Brightening Serum Foundation; a clinically proven, tone-correcting mineral foundation and brightening serum in one.  The formulation has free from oil, silicone, water, parabens and  fragrance. It does contain jojoba-coated mineral pigments suspended in a coconut-derived serum base, which are combined with Vitamin C and supercharged Lilac Plant Stem Cells.

Apparently, we still have to buff, so it’s good to know some things don’t change.  Already available in the US (try Sephora.com), it launches in the UK in September and will come in 20 shade choices.

Smashbox Photo Finish 24 Hour Shadow Primer
Smashbox launches its’ new 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer in the UK on May 28. The lilac-coloured primer promises to be sweat & humidity-resistant, to lock on colour for 24 hours with no fading, creasing or smudging, and to deliver more vibrant color-instantly! RRP is £18.  I will be eagerly anticipating the launch of this item, but will need some convincing to move away from my ultra-long lasting Mally eye base.

Marc Jacobs is adding to its Daisy fragrance range with the introduction of Daisy Dream. Launching July 15, the light EDT is floral and fruity with notes of pear, jasmine and coconut water. Priced at £39 for 30ml.

Following hot on the heels of last week’s news about their new Plumping Rose collection, Melvita will also be launching a Bio-Excellence Naturalift collection in September. This new anti-ageing range uses the powerful regenerating properties of organic buds and the brand's patented complex of beech, pine, blackcurrant and raspberry extracts strengthen, firm and smooth the skin. The collection consists of  Youthful Eye Contour (£29.50), Youthful Day Cream (£36) and Youthful Night Cream (£38), which nourishes the skin throughout the night.

I love, love, love a good exfoliator -  although with a sensitive skin very prone to redness, most granular scrubs are out for me.  I will be interested to try the new Origins Modern Friction Instant Brightening Pads (new for June) when they launch.  Formulated to improve skin’s texture, tone and clarity, they textured pads supposedly give the effect of a chemical peel (gulp!) but are meant to also be gentle and non-irritating.  The effect builds and after eight applications, you should see visibly more even toned and uniform skin.  A tub of 40 pads will be priced at £31.

More OPI releases heading our way.  The Ford Mustang by OPI Collection (yes really, sometimes I do despair) includes these six limited-edition shades (from left to right): Race Red, 50 Years of Style, Queen of the Road, The Sky’s My Limit ,Girls Love Ponies and accent shade Angel with a Leadfoot.

Available now, L’Occitane en Provence has launched three limited-edition product ranges from its L’Occitane au Brésil line to the rest of the world. The Vitória-Régia, Mandacaru and Jenipapo lines have been available exclusively in Brazil for a year. Using native Brazilian ingredients, they were developed to tie in with the football World Cup. The Vitória Régia line is based on a flower of the same name – a giant water lily from the Amazon, which flowers at night and closes up during the day. Jenipapo is a line of sun care for the face and body using the properties of the fruit tree cerrado. The Mandacaru line is inspired by the mandacaru cactus, whose large white flower blooms at dusk and withers at dawn.

  1. I just can't believe that about BareMinerals, it sounds like it's just 100% about the kerching, kerching, kerching. Don't think I'll be painting my nails Mustang any time soon either.
