Weekend News Digest 24 May 2014

Fragrance news from Kenzo and Jo Malone (Wood Sage and Sea Salt), new brow products from MAC, new nails from Nails Inc and lots more beauty snippets in this week's beauty news round up.

Wood Sage & Sea Salt is the evocative new scent from Jo Malone London, inspired by the unique character and qualities of the British beach (I suspect not Southend-on-Sea, though). A complex combination of wood and the sea is at its core. Sounds heavenly. The full Wood Sage & Sea Salt collection includes a Cologne (30ml and 100ml), Body & Hand Wash (250ml), Body Crème (175ml0 and, of course, a Home Candle.

Composed by perfumer duo Daphné Bugey and Christophe Raynaud, new Kenzo Jeu d'Amour is a floral scent comprising notes of pomegranate, bloody mandarin and tea accord, accompanied by tuberose and freesia accents. Out in August.

Two Faced debuts two new eye shadow palettes in June. The Too Faced Rock N' Roll Rock Candy Eye Shadow Collection features a mixture of nine matte and metallic styles (Rockabilly, New Wave, New Romantic, Rap, Pop, Glam Rock, Ska, Heavy Metal, Punk), while the Too Faced Country Nashville Nudes Eye Shadow Collection captures the southern capital's charm with nine sparkling shades (Cowboy Take Me Away, Famous in a Small Town, All American Girl, Y’all, Paper Roses, Nashville, Dolly, Rhinestone, Bluebird).   From looking at these, I think I’ll have to admit to being a little bit country!

MAC’s new collection of brow products, Waterproof Brow, aims to be sweat-proof, smudge-free and humidity-resistant. It includes Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set (£13) in Clear, Emphatically Blonde; Toasted Blonde, Red Chestnut, Quiet Brunette, Bold Brunette, and Brown Ebony. Also in the collection is Fluidline Brow Gelcreme (limited edition at £15) in three shades. Finally, the collection includes a 208 Angled Brow Brush (£16.50).

Max Factor are introducing a collection of five new Fluid Rouge, part of the Colour Elixir Gloss line (available June, £7.99ea). The glosses contain a combination of smoothing mineral oil, nourishing candelilla wax and shine enhancers, and come with a specially designed sponge applicator to ensure the right amount of product is applied. New shades include: Polished Fuchsia, Enchanting Coral, Delightful Pink, Luxurious Berry and Luscious Amethyst.

For its 15th anniversary Nails inc has teamed up with Alexa Chung, who will act as its new face and brand ambassador, and launching in August with an innovative line of fabric inspired co-branded polishes, (Alexa Lace Red, Alexa Cashmere in Mink, Alexa in Black, Alexa Leather in Black,  Alexa Camouflage, Alexa Sequins in Black and Gold).  This range will debut the new Nails inc’s bottle, with updated logo and complete bottle re-design, featuring a unique concave profile glass bottle and a luxurious metal cap/applicator. The larger bottle size will see the content increase from 10ml to 14ml of product.

Moving onto hair and new from Kérastase is Discipline (ooh, Matron) aimed to prevent unruly hair. The new range is based on cutting-edge technology that contains patented Morpho Keratin, which strengthens the surface and weakness points to assist the natural movements of all hair types. The collection comprises: Bain Fluidealiste, sulfate free Bain Fluidealiste, Fondant Fluidealiste, Maskeratine, and Scellage Fluidealiste.

Redkin’s new Blonde Idol immediately rekindled fond memories of ‘80s bad boy and big crush, Billy Idol.  However, it’s actually a new collection that targets blonde hair (no sh*t, Shylock). The range comprises: Redken Blonde Idol Sulfate-Free Shampoo, and two Redken Blonde Idol Custom-Tone Treatments, one for cool platinum blondes and another for rich golden blondes.

Detangling brush brand Tangle Teezer has unveiled Limited Edition Sugared Almonds, a new collection of its signature hair brushes available in pastel shades. Detangling hair in a brush-stroke, the Salon Elite brush (£11.60) is available in Sweet Peppermint and Sweet Lilac colours, while the Original (£10.60) is available in Sweet Peppermint.

Finally, I’d like to give a big thank you to John Lewis.  Yesterday my broadband went Bang! and with absolutely no sign of BT Openreach, I resorted to a corner of the John Lewsi Café and their WIFI, where the staff where gracious and helpful, and didn’t once make me feel like I’d outstayed my welcome.

Hope the Sun shines on your Bank Holiday xx
